Celebrating Valentines and the Lunar New Year at Disneyland

It's the weekend and we're celebrating at Disneyland. There's two holidays coming up this week, so we've themed our hats to match.
Alli and Theresa are sporting pink and red princess hats with hearts all over for Valentine's Day coming up on the 14th. Ian and I (and later Ruston) are wearing Pluto hats because on the 16th it's the Lunar New Year and this year is the year of the dog.

We got out of the house nice and early today, getting to the parks right at the 8am opening. I snagged the first photo pass photographer I saw and got family photos.

The boys.

The girls.
Also we were happy to see that the popcorn stand was already open, making sure to fill up our Annual Passholder popcorn bucket.

Our first stop in DCA is always Toy Story. Getting our 3D glasses, Alli wanted to make sure Pluto got his glasses.

She's pretty proud of herself.

Afterwards we walked over to the Lunar New Year celebrations, but discovered they didn't get started until 11am. We're a bit early.
T and Alli posed in front of these beautiful pink flowering trees that Disneyland offers.

A short time later, Jacob joined us at the park for a ride on Mater.

Just outside the Animation Building, Doc McStuffins was greeting new friends.

Normally when Ian and I ride Guardians of the Galaxy, T will take Alli into Bugs Land. Today though she's doing something different. Alli is way into Frozen and Elsa and Anna just happen to be meeting guests inside the Animation Building. After a short wait, Alli was a little shy as she walked up to meet Elsa and Anna. T said they were very welcoming though, inviting her to a tea party, suggesting that Rapunzel will be there and might bring raspberries. Alli said she would bring strawberries to the party.

In the end, she really loved meeting the princesses.

As a bonus right next door, Olaf and Kristoff were also meeting people. Alli was surprised to see Olaf being so big. He's much smaller in the movie and the stage show next door, but she still gave him a warm hug.

Time to head to Disneyland! Both kids love the maps, and study them intently when we enter.

Pluto was greeting guests just inside the entrance and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get some photos.
Pluto loved seeing Ian's hat.

And he loved seeing both of us wearing hats with him on it.

And he just lost it when he realized Ruston was wearing a Pluto hat too!
Speaking of hats, Ruston's hat is from Tokyo Disneyland, mine is from Disneyland Paris, and Ian's can be found at California Disneyland.

Pluto instructed us all in how to pose.

Great photo!

And not to be left out, Alli came in to give Pluto a hug too.

No pictures, but we all headed over to the Haunted Mansion.
Alli asked where the pumpkins were and I had to tell her that they weren't here this time. Only for the Holiday Haunted Mansion.
Alli - No Jack? Me - Nope.
Alli - No Oogie Boogie? Me - Nope.
Alli - No Zero? Me - Not this time.
Alli - But I love Zero.

Yeah, I miss the Holiday Mansion too.

As part of his Holiday Thank You gifts, Ruston gets coupons for different things. He had 6 coupons for frozen treats, so everyone got to pick their favorite.

Yum!

Mickey ice cream bars are delicious!

Alli just loves chocolate. I don't know which she enjoyed more, the chocolate festival yesterday or the ice cream today.

After leaving the park, because Ruston is with us, we got to make a special stop at Company D (the Disney overstock outlet).

Here they've got a bunch of things for at least 50% off. We found a whole bunch of things, and I got to add 10 new hats to my collection.

The kids "helping" the cast member organize Tsum Tsums.

Shortly after this picture, Alli told me I couldn't wear this because I wasn't a girl.

It was a really awesome weekend. We did so many fun things.

Tanaka Farms 2017 - Pumpkin Patch

Welcome to Tanaka Farms! Technically it's Fall, but you wouldn't know it based on the weather here. High 80s and no clouds in the sky. We'd originally planned to go to a pumpkin patch weeks ago, but the temps were in the high 90s! A few of our neighbors took the 45 minute drive south with us. Our timing was great this morning. We arrived just a few minutes before opening at 9am. Nice shirts! Apparently everyone else decided to spend their Sunday morning at the pumpkin patch too. We were just at Disneyland yesterday. It was every bit as crowded here. Oh boy. Someone got that kid a map. Parking is free here. Entry is just $3. For $10 you can get entry, a wagon ride, and entrance to the petting zoo. Kids 2 and under were free. Before it got too busy we decided to get the wagon ride in. We've got a whole family of Mickey and Minnie ghosts. The wagon ride was a quick 10 minute drive around the perimeter of the farm. There's no narration or anything telling you what you...

Oak Glen Apple Farms - Part 1

It's the weekend! This year we're not going to get the chance to fly to Michigan to visit the apple orchards there. Theresa was still really wanting to go and the kids have been getting really excited about picking apples so Theresa found a place relatively close by and made it happen! Welcome to Oak Glen! Just a 2 hour drive from our house, this mountain community had its first apple orchards planted all the way back in 1867. Now home to over 30 different orchards, this 5 mile loop is affectionately known as Apple Country. After Ian got out of school, everyone piled in the car and headed for the hotel T booked. We're making it a 2 day event, staying the night in between so we can get an early start in the morning. After checking in and getting up to our rooms, Ian was very happy to find a quarter (remember this one, it'll come back later). Time to head to our first orchard! Snow-Line Orchard has been in production since 1898. I was really happy to come on a Friday. It...

Alli takes on more 40" rides at Disneyland

It's been a full weekend already, spending 2 days in Oak Glen California visiting apple orchards, but we're not done yet. Weekends are perfect for a Disneyland visit. I love seeing all the different Halloween decorations, plus Alli just turned 40" tall so she's got lots of brand new things she can ride. Hats this week continue the Nightmare Before Christmas theme from last week. From left to right, we've got a Jack Skellington style top-hat from Disneyland years ago. Next is Jack Skellington bursting out of a pumpkin which I think was offered last year at Disneyland. Then there's a Scary Teddy hat, followed by a Santa Jack hat complete with beard. Both parks open today at 8am. At 8:05 we were in a long line of cars trying to enter the parking structure, and by 8:45 we had made it through security and were walking through Downtown Disney. I always opt to take the 1 mile walk from the parking garage to the entrance instead of dealing with the tram. One other ...
