Happy 16th birthday Abby!

It's Abby's Sweet 16th birthday party!

To celebrate, we're flying to Michigan!

Alli really really wanted to see her Grandpa.

Made it to Michigan!

Before we celebrate her birthday, we're going to watch Aubrey play in a volleyball tournament. Here in Michigan there's a few restaurants we don't have back home. Like Tim Horton's. Known for their coffee, but also for their donuts. Ian, which one do you want? Of course the birthday cake one with sprinkles.
Ian - My tummy loves donuts!

Alli liked them too.

Made it to the volleyball tournament. Aubrey caught us in between games to say hi.

You had to keep an eye on Alli. She wanted to join the action and would run out into the middle of the court if someone wasn't keeping an eye on her. Between games she did just that!

Hi Aubrey!

Later that night, it was time for the party!

Beautiful centerpieces for each of the tables.

There's a bit of family in town here for it.

Alli closing her eyes while Donald prays for the food.

Pizza!

Everyone enjoying all the pizza at the kids table.

Alli spies chocolate.

Ethan, can you open it?

I'm going to eat you.

Nom Nom Nom.

And now, it's time for cake.

Donald saying a few words about the birthday girl, including the origin of her name. Abigail in Hebrew means "my father's joy".

And during the sweet moment of hearing about Abby's name, Alli comes running up to interrupt it. After getting led over to Mommy, all you hear is "Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate..." Little girl...

Who doesn't love cake.

Or icing.

Oh Alli. You're silly.

Giving Abby her gift.

And then posing for a picture with the birthday girl.

Ian felt the need to pose when other family members were getting their pictures too.

Ian, Ian. You even smile bigger for other people's photos.

Thank you everyone for coming!

The next day we'd hang out and then get ice cream later that night.

Who doesn't love ice cream covered in sprinkles.

Time to fly home. Ian and Alli got so many "aww"s as they held hands walking down the jet bridge and down the aisle of the plane.

After we connected in Vegas, when we boarded the next plane, Ian turned left as soon as we got onto the plane instead of right. The flight attendant said "Sure, go ahead and tell the pilots hi!"

You've got to love friendly pilots. She gave Ian a bunch of stickers, and when we got off the plane she was waiting for us with a pair of wings for both kids.

Happy to be home.

Tanaka Farms 2017 - Pumpkin Patch

Welcome to Tanaka Farms! Technically it's Fall, but you wouldn't know it based on the weather here. High 80s and no clouds in the sky. We'd originally planned to go to a pumpkin patch weeks ago, but the temps were in the high 90s! A few of our neighbors took the 45 minute drive south with us. Our timing was great this morning. We arrived just a few minutes before opening at 9am. Nice shirts! Apparently everyone else decided to spend their Sunday morning at the pumpkin patch too. We were just at Disneyland yesterday. It was every bit as crowded here. Oh boy. Someone got that kid a map. Parking is free here. Entry is just $3. For $10 you can get entry, a wagon ride, and entrance to the petting zoo. Kids 2 and under were free. Before it got too busy we decided to get the wagon ride in. We've got a whole family of Mickey and Minnie ghosts. The wagon ride was a quick 10 minute drive around the perimeter of the farm. There's no narration or anything telling you what you...

Oak Glen Apple Farms - Part 1

It's the weekend! This year we're not going to get the chance to fly to Michigan to visit the apple orchards there. Theresa was still really wanting to go and the kids have been getting really excited about picking apples so Theresa found a place relatively close by and made it happen! Welcome to Oak Glen! Just a 2 hour drive from our house, this mountain community had its first apple orchards planted all the way back in 1867. Now home to over 30 different orchards, this 5 mile loop is affectionately known as Apple Country. After Ian got out of school, everyone piled in the car and headed for the hotel T booked. We're making it a 2 day event, staying the night in between so we can get an early start in the morning. After checking in and getting up to our rooms, Ian was very happy to find a quarter (remember this one, it'll come back later). Time to head to our first orchard! Snow-Line Orchard has been in production since 1898. I was really happy to come on a Friday. It...

Alli takes on more 40" rides at Disneyland

It's been a full weekend already, spending 2 days in Oak Glen California visiting apple orchards, but we're not done yet. Weekends are perfect for a Disneyland visit. I love seeing all the different Halloween decorations, plus Alli just turned 40" tall so she's got lots of brand new things she can ride. Hats this week continue the Nightmare Before Christmas theme from last week. From left to right, we've got a Jack Skellington style top-hat from Disneyland years ago. Next is Jack Skellington bursting out of a pumpkin which I think was offered last year at Disneyland. Then there's a Scary Teddy hat, followed by a Santa Jack hat complete with beard. Both parks open today at 8am. At 8:05 we were in a long line of cars trying to enter the parking structure, and by 8:45 we had made it through security and were walking through Downtown Disney. I always opt to take the 1 mile walk from the parking garage to the entrance instead of dealing with the tram. One other ...
