Animal Kingdom

After a relaxing day at the rental house yesterday, today it was time to head back into the parks. First up is the Animal Kingdom! We had the best intentions to be there at park opening but it was hard to get moving, and we go there almost an hour after opening. I'd hoped to go on Kilimanjaro Safaris first, but without a Fastpass, and the line showing an 80 minute standby time already, that wasn't happening. Instead, we were one of the first in line for the Wilderness Express train back to Rafiki's Planet Watch.

Ian said "The train is working?" Good memory buddy, but this isn't like our train back home at Disneyland. Our train has been down for a long time now while Disneyland works on building Star Wars Land.

Being the first train of the day, we were greeted by all the cast members waving to us at the train station.

Rafiki pointing the way.

Alli was happy for the open space and room to run.

Again we were greeted by cast members as we entered.

Tiger!

Learning about a bird.

One of the kids newest favorites. A doctor who talks to and plays with stuffed animals all day? What's not to like about Doc McStuffins?

Low five.

Inside the tanks there were all sorts of interesting creatures. Frogs, lizards, snakes, insects, and yes, even spiders!

One of the main things we came to see was the veterinary checkups performed here in the morning. We'd seen earlier there was a pig that was supposed to come this morning, so we found things to do until it was time. Even then, it took a while for anything to happen.

When they finally brought the pig out, it was only to the back room where we could only see things happening on the monitor. Let's go see some other animals!

Like Rafiki! He was really animated with all the groups of bigger kids before us. But he calmed right down when it was time for the kids.

Big kisses for Rafiki before we go.

Time to go pet some animals.

I miss having the petting zoo in Frontierland back at Disneyland. At 16 months, Alli already knows her animals pretty good. "Goat!"

She was standing by the fence calling "Piggy! Piggy!"

Eventually one of them came close enough to the fence that she could stretch her hand through the fence and pet it.

Ian too.

"Moo Moo!" We're still working on the word Cow.

Ian asked to be picked up so he could stretch far enough to pet the cow's head and horns.

Waving at the monkeys before we take off.

This was just a quick visit to the Animal Kingdom this morning. The rest of our day is going to be at Epcot. Time to head that way and meet the rest of the family.

Which means a tram back to the car.

And then a drive to the Ticket and Transportation Center to take the Monorail into Epcot!

Off we go!

Tanaka Farms 2017 - Pumpkin Patch

Welcome to Tanaka Farms! Technically it's Fall, but you wouldn't know it based on the weather here. High 80s and no clouds in the sky. We'd originally planned to go to a pumpkin patch weeks ago, but the temps were in the high 90s! A few of our neighbors took the 45 minute drive south with us. Our timing was great this morning. We arrived just a few minutes before opening at 9am. Nice shirts! Apparently everyone else decided to spend their Sunday morning at the pumpkin patch too. We were just at Disneyland yesterday. It was every bit as crowded here. Oh boy. Someone got that kid a map. Parking is free here. Entry is just $3. For $10 you can get entry, a wagon ride, and entrance to the petting zoo. Kids 2 and under were free. Before it got too busy we decided to get the wagon ride in. We've got a whole family of Mickey and Minnie ghosts. The wagon ride was a quick 10 minute drive around the perimeter of the farm. There's no narration or anything telling you what you...

Oak Glen Apple Farms - Part 1

It's the weekend! This year we're not going to get the chance to fly to Michigan to visit the apple orchards there. Theresa was still really wanting to go and the kids have been getting really excited about picking apples so Theresa found a place relatively close by and made it happen! Welcome to Oak Glen! Just a 2 hour drive from our house, this mountain community had its first apple orchards planted all the way back in 1867. Now home to over 30 different orchards, this 5 mile loop is affectionately known as Apple Country. After Ian got out of school, everyone piled in the car and headed for the hotel T booked. We're making it a 2 day event, staying the night in between so we can get an early start in the morning. After checking in and getting up to our rooms, Ian was very happy to find a quarter (remember this one, it'll come back later). Time to head to our first orchard! Snow-Line Orchard has been in production since 1898. I was really happy to come on a Friday. It...

Alli takes on more 40" rides at Disneyland

It's been a full weekend already, spending 2 days in Oak Glen California visiting apple orchards, but we're not done yet. Weekends are perfect for a Disneyland visit. I love seeing all the different Halloween decorations, plus Alli just turned 40" tall so she's got lots of brand new things she can ride. Hats this week continue the Nightmare Before Christmas theme from last week. From left to right, we've got a Jack Skellington style top-hat from Disneyland years ago. Next is Jack Skellington bursting out of a pumpkin which I think was offered last year at Disneyland. Then there's a Scary Teddy hat, followed by a Santa Jack hat complete with beard. Both parks open today at 8am. At 8:05 we were in a long line of cars trying to enter the parking structure, and by 8:45 we had made it through security and were walking through Downtown Disney. I always opt to take the 1 mile walk from the parking garage to the entrance instead of dealing with the tram. One other ...
